Duke of Edinburgh
The River Centre 3-16 is pleased to announce the return of The Duke of Edinburgh award to the school.
The Duke of Edinburgh is a youth program designed to develop young people’s character and resilience, along with supporting our pupils with learning new skills.
Through the Duke of Edinburgh the pupils will learn responsibility, teamwork, resilience and problem solving, self-discipline and motivation, which will result in increased self-confidence and self-esteem.
The pupils have already started on two sections of the awards – Physical and Volunteering. The pupils chose gym sessions for their physical, and we have used the local leisure centre and Planet Fitness for these sessions. The Volunteering takes place in a local park, where they assist the ground staff in various conservation projects around the park, helping in their local community, to improve their local community.
